Srinagar, May 17: Two Al Badar militants were on Monday killed in an encounter which ensued after security forces launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in the outskirts of the summer capital, Srinagar. Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir, Vijay Kumar said that information was received by police that two militants were hiding in Khanmoh area of city outskirts on Sunday night. “The information was further developed and after confirmation about the presence of militants, a joint CASO was launched by troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and CRPF in the area,” he said. He said all the roads leading to the area were closed and exit point sealed to foil any attempts by militants to escape. “When security forces were moving towards the target area, militants opened fire,” he said, adding both the ultras were urged to surrender but they refused. He said the security forces later retaliated and in the exchange of fire, both the militants were killed. “Both the slain militants belong to Al-Badar,” he said. He said the operation has been called off and bodies of both the militants have been recovered. “At times there is movement of militants in Khanmoh area as it is the access point of south Kashmir to Srinagar. We received information and acted upon it,” he said and congratulated security forces conducting successful operation. |
