Early Times Report
Jammu, May 17: Even as Jammu continues to struggle to come out of Covid crises in the wake of “higher mortality”, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, is keeping the administration on toes to give the much-needed respite to the people. While the officials may have been thinking that the LG would avoid visiting the hospitals, which are supposed to be Covid hotspots, Sinha has taken them by surprise. Observers said it was for the first time that any head of Jammu and Kashmir was more concerned about the welfare of people than his own health in these testing times. “When all VIPs avoid visiting Covid hotspots across the country, lest they get infected, he is the only one showing the way... And this is appreciable,” said a doctor on the condition of anonymity. On May 16, the Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha visited Government Medical College, Jammu to review Covid clinical management measures being undertaken by the Hospital administration. Emphasizing on strengthening the healthcare workforce, the Lt Governor directed for hiring additional Paramedical staff, besides rational utilization of existing resources to ensure effective patient care management. Sinha directed that at all times, Senior Doctors, Nurses, and Paramedics’ presence in clinical areas to be ensured by administration. Sinha was clear cut in his directive to the hospital administration that senior doctors should be available round the clock. It’s for the first time that senior doctors are being made so accountable for the welfare of the people. “Senior doctors should also take the front line in informing people to adopt safe practices and Covid protocol. Seniors must leverage their role as both a doctor, caring & treating patients and a public health advocate containing Covid pandemic”, observed the Lt Governor. It was his second visit to the hospitals in Jammu city in less than a fortnight. On May 7, he visited Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar, CD Hospital, GMC Jammu to take first hand appraisal of Covid infrastructure and facilities here. During his visits, the Lt Governor had enquired about number of patients being treated in the hospitals, patients discharged after recovery, availability of oxygen support beds. The Lt Governor, while inspecting the functionality of Oxygen Generation Plants in the Hospitals, had directed for effective rationalization of available resources to cater to the requirements of the patients. |
