Appoint competent Principal GMC Jammu on seniority basis: Tony

EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, May 19: District Development Council (DDC) Member Suchetgarh, Taranjit Singh Tony on Wednesday leveled serious allegations against government for appointing ‘caretaker and incompetent’ Principal in the GMC&H Jammu during corona times marring its functioning badly.
In a hard-hitting statement issued here, Tony said that no sane administration will allow such kind of mismanagement at a time when the people need the Medicare the most because of corona pandemic taking a real bad shape. He alleged that the present Incharge principal of the medical college in Jammu is not only incompetent but also noteligible for this coveted post. She is not the senior most professor of GMC at present. Normally the charge is always given to the senior most professor but in her case all rules were flaunted to accommodate her against all norms. Now, the people of Jammu are suffering from the “great decision “taken by Govt.
“Her level of incompetence is evident from the order issued by the Financial Commissioner Health and Medical Department directing senior doctors to attend COVID patients by being on roaster duty,” Tony said, adding that if Principal is unable to take such decisions and is unable to use her work force effectively, then why should she be occupying her chair?
“This is really a matter of concern that GMC&H is being manned by a doctor who has got not the slightest clue about what is happening under her nose in GMC. Now, the things have reached to such a level that even the poorest who have nowhere to go, fear going to GMC for treatment as they are not sure that they will come out alive.
The big question is why this inexperienced doctor who was handpicked and placed on this coveted post despite being not eligible for the same. There are so many experienced and seasoned doctors much senior to her were available at the disposal of the government to serve the humanity at the time of this deep crisis, she got the post by just being close to the higher authorities.
The DDC member also raised the issue of rejuvenation of defunct Col Chopra Nursing Home. Why was there such a delay in making it functional? This would have served as an ideal health care facility under the circumstances. Tony demanded that still there is time to rectify the error and replace the non-performing Principal of the Government Medical College Jammu with a competent and experienced doctor.
