Early Times Report

Jammu, May 19: Lambasting the govt for perpetuating the policy of bias against Jammu region even in times of corona pandemic, Harsh Dev Singh chairman-JKNPP & former minister made an earnest appeal to the Lt. Governor to ensure parity between the two regions atleast in respect of initiatives aimed at saving the precious lives from the deadly virus.
He regretted that Jammu region continued to be looked upon with a jaundiced eye even in such crucial times and despite suffering from a higher mortality rate. He said that highly biased and prejudicial treatment to Jammu region was evident from the number of Oxygen Generation Plants (OGPs), vaccine doses and funds as allocated between the two regions of the UT.
He said that recent reports had indicated that as per the official factsheet, out of 46 OGWs in J&K in govt sector, 34 were in Kashmir and merely 12 in Jammu. He was holding a protest dharna in Jammu today against the bias perpetrated against Jammu region even with regard to life saving measures.
Pointing towards the media reports appearing in a section of the press revealing 90,000 vaccine doses for 45 years and above age group having reached Srinagar yesterday with a separate consignment of 1.17 lakh doses for 18-44 age group having already reached Srinagar the day before, it was Jammu region alone that was clamouring for supply of adequate vaccine doses to meet the huge demand.
Not only was the Jammu region being discriminated in healthcare facilities but even in distribution of relief and allocation of other funds. He said that as per the order issued by the Finance Deptt last week on 14th May, the govt released Rs. 2,94,22000 as Covid relief out of Covid fund for distribution amongst tourist related workers, including Pony walas, Tourist guides, Palki walas and others working in tourism sector which reveals the most hostile discrimination doled out to Jammu region. He lamented that while Rs. 2,92,54000 were allocated for Kashmir region, the ailing Jammu region was made to content with a mere sprinkling by allocating it a negligible share of Rs. 1.68 lakhs.
Asserting that the lives of Jammu people were as precious as those of Kashmiries, Mr. Singh urged upon the govt to end all its discriminatory moves against the dogra land and ensure equitable treatment to both the regions of the UT.
