Srinagar, May 30: Police on Sunday claimed to have destroyed poppy cultivation spread over 20 kanals of land in south Kashmir district of Anantnag. A police spokesperson said that a police team along with officers from Revenue Department launched a special drive against narcotic drugs cultivation and destroyed illegal poppy cultivation spread over 20 kanals of land at Akura, Palpora Nanil, Aung, Matipora and Nambal areas in Anantnag. “Accordingly, a case vide FIR No 59/2021 under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Mattan and investigation has been initiated,” he said. He said general public of the area have appreciated the action of Anantnag Police and have urged to continue such drive in nearby areas also. He said community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding cultivation of contrabands in their neighbourhood, adding people found indulging in drug peddling and cultivation of contraband substances shall be dealt as per law. “Our consistent actions against such anti-social elements should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace,” he added. |
