Jammu, May 30: Vishal Khatri Sabha on Sunday hailed appointment of Financial Commissioner, Finance, Arun Kumar Mehta as J&K’s new Chief Secretary. In a statement issued here, Vishal Khatri Sabha J&K President Devender Seth said that elevation of Mehta to the top bureaucratic post was widely anticipated.
Soft-spoken Mehta is known as a hard taskmaster. “Keeping in view his rich experience and calibre in mind, also he enjoys a good reputation, the Appointments Committee found him eligible for Jammu and Kashmir’s top post. Under Governor’s Rule, the coordination with the Indian Army and security forces is of prime importance and plays a crucial role. Given his experience, we’re sure he’ll do well in J&K,” Seth added.
He is expected to ensure that Administration work passionately, simultaneously moving up the ladder of knowledge acquisition & capacity building besides living up to the huge trust reposed by the people of J&K on LG Administration.“It was not easy to manage such a task given the resources and logistics involved but with the talent & execution skills of his Team, coupled with the guidance and experience of LG Manoj Sinha and support of other stakeholders, the assignment can be accomplished on time and in a hassle free manner.
We are hopeful that staff under his able guidance will come to the expectations of people of J&K in helping it achieve the desired targets, added Seth.
Seth further said that under Mehta Finance department took several initiatives to fast-track the development process and bring accountability and transparency in governance. A non-controversial IAS officer, Mehta has held key bureaucratic positions in Jammu & Kashmir and at New Delhi during his 33-year bureaucratic career.
