Qualified deserve better jobs | | | Post graduates and graduates unlikely to be selected for the Class-IV posts the list for which was released last month is a good proposal. Selecting such highly qualified candidates as Class-IV employees would be unfair with them. They deserve better jobs. These vacancies should be filled by the aspirants, whose basic qualification is 12th. After J&K’s transition into a union territory the government has made the recruitment process transparent. It was for the first time that written tests were conducted for Class-IV posts, in the erstwhile J&K State these posts used to remain reserved for the workers of political parties and most of these jobs were provided through a backdoor. This time around a merit list has been issued and marks of all the candidates have been mentioned along with their names. If the Jammu and Kashmir Service Selection Board decides to drop the candidates with higher qualifications, it will help in accommodating the aspirants, whose merit is not that high. Another factor which the helmsmen need to keep in mind is that if the candidates with higher qualifications are selected for these Class-IV posts they would definitely apply for the higher posts as and when these will be advertised. The ones who will get selected will opt for better career prospects and these Class-IV posts will fall vacant again. The recruitment process being made transparent is a positive development. It is a chance for deserving candidates to come forward and serve the people. One hopes that the recruitment to other posts will also be done in a similar manner. History stands testimony to the fact that when the political regimes ruled J&K, jobs were given on the basis of influence and backing candidates enjoyed. Job scandals were reported every now and then. It appears that the Centre has decided to ensure that no one gets a government job through a backdoor and the meritorious get their due share. After August 5, 2019, many skeletons have tumbled out of cupboards. At present various agencies like the Anti Corruption Bureau, Crime Branch and others are looking into the cases that were pushed under the carpet by former rulers. Many cases have been reopened and these have opened a Pandora’s box. It looks like that unfair means to provide government jobs was an unwritten rule followed by the political regimes in the erstwhile J&K State. |
