Children who lost parents in COVID: Administration preparing data with inaccurate feedback | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, June 4: Notwithstanding tall claims of the authorities, administration in the Union Territory is groping in the dark to collect data of children who lost a parent or both parents during second wave of the deadly virus. J&K is claiming to compile data of such children before extending financial help to enable them to continue with their education. “Instead of getting exact feedback from ground to get exact number of such ill-fated children, officers are compiling data on the basis of information just reached to them”, sources said and added that officers must involve elected Panchayat members, councilors, Lambardars, BLOs and Anganwari workers to get accurate data. The Union Territory administration is in the process of compiling data of such children before extending financial help to enable them to continue with their education. The divisional commissioners in Kashmir and Jammu and all-district heads have been given the June 20 deadline after which the process of sanctioning relief will begin. Earlier this week, the J&K government constituted a five-member panel for hand-holding families of Covid victims. Apart from the financial assistance of Rs1,000 a month to such families, the government has approved scholarships to their children. Under the scheme, the surviving spouse and the eldest the surviving member of the affected families will receive a special monthly pension of Rs1,000 through direct bank transfer (DBT), provided they are not otherwise receiving any pension under other schemes. |
