EArly Times Report

UDHAMPUR, June 4: With the objective of taking health care to the rural areas and far flung areas of the Union Territory, Covid Care Centres have been set up in the different panchayats across J&K. One such Covid Care Centre has come up at Ramnagar in Udhampur- district where doctors are writing numerous stories of resilience and self-sacrifice amid the prevailing global crisis. One such warrior is Dr. Varun Sharma, the Nodal officer at the CCC who along with a small team is taking care of covid patients.
Sharing the challenges the medical fraternity face working amid the Corona crisis, he said as a medical practitioner they are subjected to a number of duties, the duty to look after patients, the duty to protect themselves from infection and the duty to protect their families. “The responsibility of a medical professional amid Pandemic includes treating the patients, encouraging them and also to prevent the spread of disease” he shared and added, for that one needs to be both extra vigilant and focused. “We as a team put every effort to treat the patients and also keep their hopes high amid stress and anxiety.”
Sonal, an ASHA worker, who is also part of the team working at the centre, said that they always need to be conscious about the covid safe protocols both for the safety of the corona patients and for themselves. Practicing good hygiene and following all precautions is a key to covid care and management. She said working here has taught her many things and now she has learnt to check oxygen level, pulse rate and follow all guidelines. We work throughout the day and night by strictly following covid appropriate behavior, such as wearing a double mask, maintaining social distancing, washing hands, using sanitizers etc.
Suram Chand, a sanitation worker, emphasized that despite the risks they continue to do their job day and night.
