GDC Kalakote celebrates World Oceans Day | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
KALAKOTE, June 8: Department of Environmental Studies in collaboration with Literary Club of Government Degree College (GDC) Kalakote organized an online awareness programme to celebrate World Oceans Day, on the theme “Save Oceans”, in commemoration to “Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav” GDC Kalakote, organised this event to create awareness among students and sensitize them about this crucial issue through a virtual platform. Making the event successful, students attended the programme with great enthusiasm and took this opportunity to learn some important things from their well read teachers. The programme started with Prof Sheetal (HOD EVS) delivering a detailed lecture on how important it is to save our oceans as the world ocean provides so many benefits to human race and this planet from regulating our climate and weather patterns to producing half of the world’s oxygen and absorbing 50 times more Carbon dioxide than our atmosphere and lot more. Speaking on the occasion, Principal GDC Kalakote, Dr Romesh Kumar Gupta, talked at length about why we should save our oceans. He added that oceans are considered to be the lungs of the planet, a critical part of the biosphere and are a major source of food and medicine as emphasized by United Nations. Dr Gupta congratulated the organizing committee for successfully organizing this event and also appreciated students to attend this programme and thus making it successful. The programme was attended online by the teaching faculty of the college as well which included Prof Anayat-Ullah- Khan, Prof Priyanka Kumari, Dr Mohd Shakoor, Dr Afad-ul-mujaiba, Dr Naseer-ud-din Sofi, Dr Pinkey Rakwal. |
