Teachers’ forum general council meets virtually | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jun 8: A strategically important meeting of the general council of Jammu Kashmir Teachers’ Forum was conducted today. Given the challenges that the contagion of COVID_19 has thrown at us vis-à-vis physical gatherings, the meeting was conducted in a virtual mode. The meeting was presided over by the chairman, Ganesh Khajuria. Besides Khajuria, UT president Mohammad Akbar Khan, central & provincial body leaders and most of the district presidents from Jammu and Kashmir provinces participated in the meeting. In addition to discussing a whole lot of issues faced by the teaching fraternity of the state threadbare interaction was carried out on the proposed roadmap to solve these issues. While the forum has on umpteen occasions raised the chronic issue of vacant lying posts of principals, Z.E.O’s, lecturers, teachers and non-academic staff the leaders reiterated the need to fulfill these vacancies as it is proving to be an impediment in official functioning . The forum pressed for the release of transition orders in favour of RRT’s who have not as yet being transitioned into Grade II and Grade III. Pay anomaly of masters in the pre-revised pay scale also came up for discussion and a request was made to the authorities to solve the issue as it is pending disposal from an unusually long period of time. All the leaders unanimously hailed the role played by teachers in COVID-19 mitigation. Teachers have extended every possible support to the administration in COVID-19 containment. From working in different Quarantine centers to conducting door to door campaign to rope in people for vaccine administration. From working in various COVID-19 control rooms to assisting Health department in different health centers, teachers have played a phenomenal role in the ongoing pandemic. The leaders urged upon the authorities to acknowledge teachers as frontline workers and extend the perks being announced for frontline workers to the teachers engaged for COVID-19 duties. The much hyped annual transfer drive (ATD) was discussed threadbare and the leaders voiced their concern about the criteria being followed by the authorities in affecting transfers. The leaders expressed displeasure over the fact that a minimum of seven year stay is being looked into to affect a particular transfer. There are many teachers working in hard zones and there is a dire need to transfer them. The “7-year stay” criteria is lending a big blow to their chances of getting transferred. The forum requested the authorities to frame a comprehensive transfer policy for Grade II and Grade II teachers with a special focus on female teachers as the issue warrants serious consideration on humanitarian grounds. The Government launched a praiseworthy initiative christened winter tutorials and faculty from various Government Schools was engaged in these winter tutorials. Ironically, the leave salary due to such teachers has not as yet been settled by the authorities. Demanding an immediate settlement of the Leave Salary issue of the teachers & lecturers engaged in winter tutorials all the leaders said that the issue must now be redressed. The persistent demand of the teachers of JKUT to provide them pay grades at par with their counterparts in other union territories of India must be met. Urging upon the Government to provide Central pay grades to teachers of Jammu Kashmir, the leaders said that even after two years of JK being made a union territory the salary grades have not been brought at par with other union territories of the country. The chairman alongwith the UT president appealed the teachers to use social media judiciously. In this regard the leaders urged upon the leadership to go through the constitution and follow the social media guidelines that lie therein. The President instructed the district presidents to hold virtual meetings within their districts. Both the provinces Jammu and Kashmir were distributed into three divisions. A detailed roadmap was prepared to conduct meetings in these divisions. Each month has been divided into three triads each comprising 10 days. The three divisions in Kashmir province will be holding meetings in the month. A particular division will be conducting a review cum assessment meeting in the first triad (first ten days), then the next division in the next triad (next ten days) and so on. Jammu province will also follow the same pattern. In his address, the State president, Mohammad Akbar Khan said that discipline is quintessentially the soul of an organization and that it can be maintained by following the constitution in letter and spirit. While praising the efforts of the district presidents, the soft spoken leader said that the district presidents have provided unflinching support to the organization and it is their unwavering faith which has brought teachers’ forum to the place where it currently is. The presidential address was given by the chairman Ganesh Khajuria.
