Implement Enemies Property Act, abolish Custodian Deptt: Tony
‘Restore statehood before elections in J&K’
6/23/2021 11:35:09 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, June 23: DDC Member Suchetgarh Taranjit Singh Tony asked LG’s Administration to appeal to Home Minister Amit Shah for implementing Enemies Property Act in J&K and abolishing the Custodian Department as the same is of no use for the people of Jammu region.
Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, Taranjit Singh said that aforesaid Act is necessary for giving complete rights to people who are living in the custodian property as under the Custodian Department people cannot even repair their houses as to carry out repairs they are required to get prior permission from the Custodian Department which instead of facilitating the people is harassing the same by misusing the law and other strictures.
The DDC member said that the ‘good for nothing’ department should be abolished as soon as possible and government should pave way for the Enemies Property Act in the UT so that people can buy and sell the property. He also demanded that the government should provide absolute ownership rights to refugees.
The DDC member also raised the issue of people who have their fields ahead of the barbed boundary along the border with Pakistan. He said that during his first visit to R S Pura, Home Minister Amit Shah had promised 5 marla plots and compensation but till date nothing has been given to these farmers who have to face a lot of miseries for living on the edge. He said that the BJP dispensation in the Centre is expert in rhetoric but on ground the situation is akin to that of 10-20 years before.
The DDC member demanded that there is no fun in lingering on the delimitation process, rather it will be good for the people if the Government at the Centre first restores the statehood and thereafter in November go for Assembly polls because there is no match to a political dispensation.
Tony also reiterated that those who have handpicked the leaders to be called for the APM on June 24 have did a big mistake by not calling DDC members as they are the ones who know the ground situation. He said that whosoever is representing the Jammu region in the APM should ask the government why it has backstabbed the refugees by denying the promised Rs 25 lakh compensation and stopped the process after releasing Rs 5 lakh for each family. He also resented the inordinate delay in raising the border battalion which was also promised by the BJP Government just before the elections.
