Wine Traders Association raises concerns over new excise policy, seeks revocation
6/23/2021 11:54:43 PM

EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, June 23: Raising concerns over the Excise Policy for 2021-22, the Jammu Wine Traders said that the Excise Department has failed on all front and the new excise policy is a total failure.
Digvijay Singh, former President Jammu Wine Traders Association speaking on the occasion told reporters here that the New Excise Policy has failed badly in all aspects, Government was boasting about fetching Rs 140 crores from the e-Auctioning but from that also 40 bidders have withdrawn and not deposited the bid amount as they ran away.
Singh said that out of 228 licences which were auctioned only 100 (approx) licensee have been able to open their shops as other have either ran away as they had placed so high value bids which they could not deposit or failed to fulfill the requirements and many of them have to face the protest of the local citizens as they have not taken the NOC from the local Corporators or the neighbouring citizens.
Singh said that earlier their 223 Licenses used to collect Rs 1500 cr (approx) revenue every year for the government but today with the failure of this policy Government is facing huge losses in the revenue day by day.
He said that spurious liquor is being sold openly in the market to fetch more profit by the Outsiders who have taken the shops in auction. Liquor is being sold at the higher rates than desired Price fixed by the Government but no check is being made by the Excise Department directly affecting the pocket of the local people.
He said that switching over to new excise policy, the government should have taken a lenient view with regards to existing license holders as e-auctioning has put at risk prospects of their survival and sustenance.
Singh urged Lt Governor Manoj Sinha to reconsider the Excise policy 2021-22 and restore their Licenses as the new excise policy has failed badly in every aspects and let the earlier licensees continue as they used to do earlier.
