KVK Reasi organizes online Training Programme on FPOs | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
REASI, June 23: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi under the administrative control of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu today organized online training programme on ‘Farmers Producer Organizations (FPOs)’ which was enthusiastically attended by a number of walnut and apple growers of Mahore area in Reasi district. The programme was organized under the guidance of Director Extension of SKUAST-J, Prof SK Gupta. Dr Banarsi Lal, Scientist & Head of KVK, Reasi initiated the programme with the warm welcome of participants. He elaborated the concept and objectives of FPOs and group dynamics. He enlightened the scope of FPOs in hilly areas and added that they can provide benefits to the farmers by generating employment and improving livelihood security to the small and marginal farmers of these areas. He discussed on Farmers Interest Groups (FIGs) and narrated that the FPOs can become a vehicle of change for tackling the socio-economic conditions of the farmers of hilly areas. Dr Pawan Sharma, Scientist, KVK, Kathua spoke at length on the formation, management and strengthening of FPOs. He informed that FPOs will facilitate the farmers to sale their farm produce such as walnut and apple in a collective way. He discussed in length about the formation of Board of Directors and bye-laws required for FPOs. Dr Suja Nabi Qureshi, Scientist spoke on temperate fruits production technology and urged participants to start their micro-agri entrepreneurships in the area so that their income and employment can be enhanced. The programme was concluded by Dr Qureshi with the formal vote of thanks. |
