EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, June 28: While welcoming the initiative of the Prime Minister and Home Minister for setting into motion the democratic process after delimitation, Chairman Sikh United Front J&K, Sudershan Singh Wazir demanded that as a special case Sikhs should be made party to this process and be invited for any further discussions and negotiations.
Explaining in detail the reason behind participation of Sikhs while addressing a press conference here today, Wazir said that by and large the Sikh community in J&K, belong to the refugee families of PoK who were forced to migrate to this part during 1947 and the Reorganization Act has reserved 24 assembly seats for PoK as earlier also this reservation of assembly seats was existing. Since the delimitation process is ongoing the refugees of POK want at least 8 to 10 assembly seats to be reserved for them other than the existing number of assembly seats so that a proper representation to PoK residents is also available, he added.
Wazir further said that the government in Delhi has taken certain revolutionary steps and the refugees of 1947 would also like to benefit from such decisions.
In the end, Wazir once again thanked the Prime minister and Home Minister for initiating a dialogue with the political establishment of the J&K and again reiterated that the representatives of PoK especially Sikhs should also be made part of these negotiations and delimitation process including the defreezing of 8 to 10 assembly seats reserved for the PoK in the forthcoming elections as and when it is held.
Addressing the presser, Darbinder Singh President Shiromani Akali Dal J&K, Mohinder Singh Chief Organizer Bhai Kaniya Nishkam Sewa Society J&K and ex-Member DGPC Jammu expressed shock and anguish over the condition of Sikh families in Kashmir and the treatment being meted out to them which is highly condemnable. They specially mentioned about the abduction of Sikh girls at gunpoint and then getting them married to Muslims after conversion. They said this is totally unacceptable and warned the UT administration of dire consequences and further said that if strict action is not taken to undo all this the Sikhs will resort to agitational path. All the Sikh organizations declared their unequivocal support to the Sikhs living in Kashmir.
The others who participated in the meeting included Rajinder Singh General Secretary Shiromani Akali Dal J&K, Raja Singh Sarpanch member DGPC Jammu, Ravinder Singh Sarpanch & General Secretary Shiromani Akali Dal J&K, Charanjeet Singh retired SDM, Gajan Singh President J&K Motor Company Association, Paramjit Singh Ex Corporator and Prof Yudhvir Singh, Corporator.
