Early Times Report

Rajouri, June 29: A serious allegation of substandard patch work by the Public Works Department Rajouri in four kilometers long Jigni to Kothian road of tehsil Kalakote has been leveled by the locals of the area. When Early Times reached this area, the local residents said that it was the first time any media organization had visited the area to know about their problems. They said that the road has been lying in dilapidated condition for the last many years and recently a patch work was done by department, but it turned out to be substandard and started coming out.
“Around Rs 11-12 lakhs were sanctioned for this repair work but only minor repairs like patch works were done by using substandard material and started coming out. The entire patch work was executed in night hours so that nobody from local areas could make out the quality of the material. The contractor as well as the concerned officials of PWD has committed embezzlement of funds,” they alleged. They said that even the patches which were applied on the road were not properly rolled. They demanded that officials involved in this work should be suspended. When contacted the concerned AEE said that the payment of repair work has not been made to the contractor till date and this payment will only be made after proper inspection of the work. He said that the department will ensure that road work is executed properly in future.
