Are drone attack ‘aides’ hiding in Jammu? Investigators want to know | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, June 30: In a major development that can yet again open the lid on the sinister designs of Pakistan, the recent drone attacks that recently took place on the Technical Airport in Jammu may have been “co-handled” from the winter capital of Jammu or adjoining areas. Sources said the investigators have got crucial leads in the case, which suggest that the “co-handlers” of the drone, which executed the terror attacks may have been in Jammu. Sources said the investigations suggest that the drone was remotely operated but that a “local handler” of the machine cannot be ruled out. Sources said the drone must have been additionally remote controlled from within few kilometers of Jammu. Sources said with the input the Jammu police have already started collecting details of people living in the suspected areas especially about the tenants if any there. “Certain areas have been identified from where the terror machine may have been co-operated and could be having links about the execution of the terror plot,” said a source. “Details of tenants and others, in the suspected areas are being collected as its high profile case and things are being investigated meticulously,” said a source privy to the developments. The Jammu and Kashmir Police Director General of Police, Dilbag Singh has already said that the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba is likely to be the mastermind of the unprecedented drone attack at the IAF station in Jammu airport. Two IAF officers suffered minor injuries when drones carrying explosives attacked the IAF station early morning of June 27. The twin attacks took place within a span of six minutes. Weaponisation of commercially available small drones and quadcopters for low-cost, high-impact strikes, which was in a way pioneered by ISIS or Daesh in Iraq and Syria, has now infiltrated into India for the first time. And Jammu has been the first target. The DGP said the police have sensitised vital installations about the new threat from terror outfits. "All preventive measures have been taken for the same," Singh said. He said a general warning has also been issued to the public for no unauthorised use of drones in Jammu and Kashmir. "Strict actions would be taken for the same," he added. On June 29, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) took over the probe into the first-of-its-kind terror attack. |
