Virtual workshop on National Statistics Day concludes

Jammu, Jun 30: A two days National Virtual Workshop entitled “Statistical and Economical Analysis of Data through Packages” organized by Division of Statistics and Computer Science to commemorate 128th birth anniversary of late Prof. Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis on National Statistics Day – 2021 concluded today at SKUAST-Jammu.
The workshop was organized for faculty, scientists and students to acquaint them about statistical and economical techniques using different packages. More than 200 people participated in the workshop. Prof. Manju Singh Tonk, Head, Department of Mathematics and Statistics, HAU was the chief guest on the occasion and Prof. Bikram Singh, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture was Guest of Honor.
The chief guest while congratulating the organizers for organizing such a wonderful workshop also highlighted the contribution made by statistics.
She informed that statistics helps to draw inferences based on the data to maximize the output and minimize costs. Prof. Manju Singh was of the opinion that in near future Statistics and Computer Science needs big collaboration and Contribution for each other and many data techniques/ softwares such as monte carlo simulation, cloud computing and quantitative marketing research etc are gaining importance.
Dr. Bikram Singh, Dean, FoA and guest of Honur, discussed the role of Indian Father of Statistics, Prof. Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis and also informed the house about his achievements. Earlier Prof. Jyoti Kachroo, Head, Division of Agricultural Economics and ABM in her concluding remarks mentioned about the relation of economics and statistics.
She was of the opinion that Economists use data to analyze trends that involve the exchange of money or goods and services. Statisticians work on ways to collect any kind of data to accurately reflect the relationship between desired factors. During the two days training programme eight numbers of lectures were delivered by different speakers on a wide range of topics related to statistics and economics. Dr. Anil Bhat, Assistant Professor & Organizing Secretary of the workshop presented the formal Vote of thanks.
Dr. M. I. Jeelani Bhat, Organizing Secretary conducted the proceedings of the valedictory function. Dr. Sanjay Guleria, Dr Amrish vaid Dr. Sachin Gupta, Dr. Moni Gupta, Dr Punit Choudhary, Dr. Vivak M Arya, Dr. Rajan Salalia, Dr. Devinder Sharma, Dr. Gurdev Chand, Dr. Vikas Sharma, and all the convener (s), co-Convener (s), members of the different committees helped in smooth conduct of the workshop on virtual platform which otherwise was looking as good as physical workshop.
