Rana inaugurates rural horse shows, terms it revival of rural sports

NAGROTA July 4: Enthusiasm ran high in Ragoora village in Nagrota today with Provincial President Mr Devender Singh Rana inaugurating the first ever Rural Horse Show, which drew the sports lovers from close vicinities in large numbers.
The equestrians, horsemen, from Amritsar, Ragoora and R. S Pura participated in the event, which showcased the horse race and jumping among various other activities that caught the imagination of the onlookers.
For a change, it was an interesting event, heard about much but seen probably for the first time.
Ishaq Mohammed of Ragoora won the competition amid grand applause by the sports lovers, who cheered overwhelmingly on every feat of the horses.
“The idea behind organizing the horse-show is to revive and popularize the rural sports, which used to be craze in older times and remains a passion with the belt forces across the world even now”, Mr Rana said, hoping that such events will draw adventurous horsemen in a big way in the future. He described the show as a display of physical strength both of the riders and the horses.
Mr Rana congratulated the participants, saying losing and winning are part of the game but the important thing is whole-hearted participation, which inspires youngsters to try their capabilities.
The Provincial President gave a cash prize of Rs 11,000 to Ishaq Mohammad (Noori), Rs 7,100 to Ricky Manhas (Gudu) of Barnai Bantalab and Rs 5,100 to Gopee Singh of Amritsar. Mohammad Gulzar (Bijli) of R. S Pura was also awarded on the occasion.
Prominent among those present on the occasion included Shafqat Watali (Retd IGP, Jagjeet Singh, Dy Commandant CRPF, Sashi Kant Yadav, Asstt Commandant, CRPF, SHO Baghebahu, Kirti Sharma, Hameed Choudhary, Sewa Ram, Bashir Kohli, Babu Ram and others..
At the outset, the Provincial President was introduced with the riders. As the event progressed, the enthusiastic crowd gave a big applause to encourage riders to give their best in the first such competition.
The dignitaries present on the occasion also complimented the participating riders, hoping they will make big in the future events.
