Youth committing suicides, J&K Govt setting up Youth Clubs!
Arbitrary Govt decisions pushing Jammu youth towards unemployment
7/5/2021 12:19:47 AM
Early Times Report
jammu, July 4: A recent initiative of the Jammu and Kashmir Government to set up "Youth Clubs" in the Union Territory is more a "publicity stunt" rather than a serious step towards youth empowerment.
The J&K administration has been giving much publicity to the "Youth Clubs" that were announced by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. The LG had said that thousands of youth will be benefitted by these clubs, which would be setup in every panchayat across J&K.
An observer while talking to Early Times said, "The present dispensation is all about announcements and nothing more. It seems that someone needs to remind the helmsmen that during the past two years the unemployment rate has increased and youth are committing suicides as they apprehend that their future is bleak."
He said, "It's high time for the government to think about doing something concrete for the youth rather than just creating hype about the programmes that won't yield any results on the ground."
"When the Jammu and Kashmir was turned into a union territory the then Governor Satya Pal Malik had announced that 50,000 youth will be provided with the jobs. But his claim didn't see the light of the day as people are asking ``where are the jobs that were announced by Malik?"
An analyst said, "Since the day COVID-19 pandemic has broken out, people have been facing immense losses. There have been job cuts in the private sector and many youth have been rendered jobless. The government has not done anything concrete for these youth."
He said, "New liquor policy implemented by the J&K government earlier this year rendered hundreds of people without any work as many existing shops had to wind up their operations due to the open bidding for the liquor vends. Many youths who were working in these establishments are still looking for jobs. This move of the government hit Jammu directly as the entire liquor trade was with the people of Jammu."
The analyst said, "The government's recent move to call off the Durbar Move practice will also add to unemployment in Jammu as the number of people visiting the winter capital from Kashmir is set to decline. This will also add to the unemployment rate. Setting up youth clubs after snatching employment avenues from the young people is nothing but a gimmick."
