Early Times Report

Jammu, July 4: Govt. Degree College, Chenani under the patronage of its Science Club, organised a program, “Botanical Secrets of wellness: Clue from Nature’s Signature”. Nature has many secrets that need to be discovered to live a balanced life.
Medicinal herbs are all around us with many essential healing qualities. In the present scenario, there is a great need to look deeply into the nature to discover its elements in order to empower ourselves with herbs for health and stamina.
In this program, students elucidated the benefits of medicinal plants present in their native places by creating short videos and PowerPoint presentations. Plants and herbs (with common names) like Banafsha, sabja seeds, timbru, kakar, harad, kamble, guduchi, bajarbang, gucchi, patharchatta are some of local medicinal plants having tremendous health benefits, which were briefly described by the students. Students of B.Sc (Sem. II) Reda, Faizan, Sania, Rahul, Meenakshi & Khushi shared in their videos about how medicinal plants are important source to combat the serious diseases. All these facts and details inculcated among students the attentiveness to know more about medicinal plants and their uses in treating different diseases.
Dr. Pragya Khanna, Principal of the College emphasised that healing with medicinal plants is an old treatment method as old as mankind itself.
The connection between human and their search for drugs in nature dates from the far past, of which there are enormous evidence from different sources (written documents, preserved monuments, and even original plant medicines).
Awareness of medicinal plants’ usage is vital in strategizing the future role and place for medicinal plants in disease prevention. The program was organised by Prof. Deksheka Sharma.
