GDC Kathua organizes Intra-College Declamation Contest | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, July 4: Department of Environmental Sciences in collaboration with Ravi Eco Club of Government Degree College (GDC) Kathua organized an Intra-College Online Declamation Contest on the occasion of ‘International Plastic Bag Free Day’ on the topic of “Impact of Plastic Bags on the terrestrial and Aquatic Ecosystem and Alternatives of Plastic Bags in the present era”. Total 85 students attended the online meeting out of which 30 students shared their views on the topic. The event was organized on the Google Meet Platform. The event was organized under the patronage of Prof Assa Ram Sharma, Principal GDC Kathua. Speaking on the occasion, he said that millions of plastic bags are dumped in the surroundings without bothering to its ill effects on the living beings. He insisted on taking immediate steps to stop the use of plastic bags and shifting to the conventional carry bags. Dr Deepshikha Sharma, HOD Environmental Sciences and Convener Ravi Eco Club coordinated the whole event. She highlighted the global crises of plastic pollution and insisted on switching to jute, cloth or canvas bags. Prof Surbhi Gupta and Prof Vrinda Sharma acted as the jury members of the competition. The 1st prize of Declamation Contest was won by Deeksha Sharma, 2nd prize went to Alieza Katal while Vishali Sharma won the 3rd prize. The consolation prizes were given to Bharti Devi and Tamanna. In the end, the vote of thanks was presented by Prof Neeru Sharma. The other faculty members who also attended include Prof Jasvinder Singh, Dr Ritu Bhagat, Dr Chetna Gupta, Prof Rupali Nanda, Prof Sheetal Sharma and Prof Ajay Gupta.
