Youth Services wing coming up with Intl level sports infra in J&K, claims DG Sports | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 4: Asserting that sports scenario in coming years will completely change and will be a result oriented, the Director General, Jammu and Kashmir Department of Youth Services and Sports, Dr Saleem-ur-Rehman has claimed that the institution is readying international level sports infrastructure across the Union Territory. Talking to UNI, Dr Rehman said, ?we cannot compete at any level without having adequate facilities and world class infrastructure.? ?Sports as a professional subject is a discipline, which needs devotion and adequate facilities,? said the DG asserting that the Department of Youth Services and Sports, is coming up with multifaceted world class infrastructure for the players so that they can compete at every level. Quoting an example of comprehensive sports infrastructure at Nagrota based ‘Khel Gaon’ in the city outskirts Dr Rehman terms it a ‘dream project’. ?International level football ground standing for its inauguration, green field cricket ground, athletic track and many more of world class standard, are readied at the ‘Khel Gaon’,? he says. Sharing details about other projects, the Director General revealed that international level hockey turf at Poonch, athletic track at Kashmir University to be ready by September-October, hockey field at Amar Singh College, Kashmir, Rugby Field at Polo Ground, Srinagar, modern shooting range first of its kind is coming up at Jammu, two are already inaugurated at Doda and Srinagar, international level hockey turf at Sopore, Baramulla and many more high class sports projects are underway in parts of the Union Territory. ?The Department is nurturing talent in every nook and corner by engaging our professionals so that the youngsters are identified at a tender age for further grooming,? Dr Rehman said. Admitting that it is an era of competition, he said, ?we have to find the root cause so that it is addressed timely.? ?There were many shortcomings earlier in the sports arena, which we gradually started addressing,? he said. ?Without proper facilities and infrastructure, talent cannot be taken to new heights,? the DG Sports claimed and assured that Jammu and Kashmir sports will witness a sea change in the coming years. We have acquired land in various parts of the Union Territory for developing grounds and play fields so that our players who are sweating hard and dreaming to participate in national level competitions, get benefitted,? said the Youth Services and Sports Department Head.
