What will be capital of JK if Darbar move tradition cancelled completely, asks JPP | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 4: Questioning the rationale behind decision of cancellation of annual Darbar move completely, Jammu People’s Party (JPP) today asked the Prime Minister of India Narender Modi as well as Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Kumar Sinha as what would be the capital of Union Territory if the Darbar move would be completely cancelled. “It appears that the decision makers have not applied their mind before taking decision regarding cancellation of Darbar move, which was over a one and half century old tradition. For a moment, if we consider complete cancellation of Darbar move, then what will be the capital of JK”, JPP leader questioned, adding if the government will make Jammu as capital then Kashmir region will suffer and agitate against the decision and if Srinagar will be made capital, then Jammu would suffer and agitate against the decision. The JPP leaders also said that the Darbar move played an important role to supplement the fragile economy of Jammu based shopkeepers. “All the shopkeepers of Jammu city including wholesale and retailers have two major occasions of sales. One is Darbar move employees while another is marriage ceremonies or festivals. If Darbar move is completely cancelled, the Jammu based shopkeepers would suffer badly and it is beyond comprehension as to what compelled the government to take such decision”, they said. Criticizing the silence of politicians of Jammu over the move, the JPP leaders said that it was most unfortunate that the majority of the politicians of Jammu across party lines were only concerned about the elections and not other decisions, which would prove detrimental to the future of Jammu. “The politicians should be farsighted but it is most unfortunate that they are only bothered about the conduct of elections. The decision to cancel the Darbar move is detrimental to the future of Jammu as well as its relationship with Kashmir”, the JPP leaders said.
