Jammu, July 4: Almost each ward falling under the jurisdiction of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) is facing the menace of stray dogs, whose presence has made it difficult for morning walkers, especially the female to shun their daily health routine. According to morning walkers from various localities of Jammu city, the number of stray dogs has increased manifold and packs of stray dogs have been ruling the roost in each of the lanes and by-lanes. During late night hours and early morning hours, these packs of stray dogs could be found chasing the bikers and many times, it leads to accidents and sometimes, the stray dogs caught hold of the bikers. “It is not possible to roam out of our houses during peak hours as stray dogs’ writ run large over lanes and by-lanes. Children, old age persons and females are becoming victims of dog bite cases”, a morning walker said. Narrating their ordeal, the morning walkers said that in every nook and corner of the city stray dogs are present and even attack them. “Each of us has to carry a stick with us or to move in groups so that these stray dogs could not attack us. These stray dogs even enter the parks and defecate in the parks, making them unable for the morning walkers to roam in parks”, a morning walker said, adding that sometimes it was an embarrassment for the families to encounter dogs mating. The Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) should formulate a concrete policy to tackle the menace. |
