Lawyers organize meet to discuss issues
7/18/2021 11:40:11 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, July 18: Lawyers practicing in Jammu, in High Court and Subordinate Courts organized a meeting to discuss current issues affecting the practicing lawyers.
Conducted by its Convener H.C. Jalmeria Advocate, many senior and young lawyers participated in the discussion.
The participants unanimously appreciated the decision of Chief Justice of J&K High Court for resuming physical hearings in High Court and Subordinate Courts in UTs of J&K and Ladakh after second wave of COVID-19.
This has given much needed relief to lawyers and the litigant public who have been suffering a lot due to restrictions on free access to Courts due to the spread of Corona and resultant closures. Now, things have improved due to vaccination and lowering rate of Covid infections and opening of business and other life activity all around. It was further observed in the meeting to impress upon the Hon'ble Chief Justice to further ease restrictions in appearance of litigant public in courts particularly in trial cases and witnesses in civil cases though observing COVID-19 behaviour. The Lawyers in the meet expressed deep concern over non holding of elections for the J&K High Court Bar Association Jammu since after 27 April 2019 when these were last held for one year tenure. For lack of democratic set up, the Lawyers are facing many problems in projection of their real issues and even some times some vested interests develop to misrepresent the Association.
The meeting resolved for holding of elections to the J&K High Court Bar Association without further delay.
They also expressed concern over the virtual mode functioning of CAT Bench at Jammu where old cases do not reach and lawyers and litigants are suffering. The CAT should immediately start physical hearings. It was urged upon the Govt. to shift the CAT to near the High Court at Jammu.
They also appealed the government to immediately resume the consumer courts which were closed two years ago.
