7/19/2021 12:43:44 AM
Early Times Report

Jammu, July 18: Despite the early arrival of the monsoon this year, Jammu-the winter capital of the Union Territory of J&K is facing its worst-ever water and power crisis.
Inhabitants of most parts of Jammu district, especially Kandi belts and towns facing acute water shortages due to the casual attitude of the higher-ups.
The situation of power in Jammu is going from bad to worse, now residents are battling for potable water. Due to downpours, the water situation has improved in some areas of the plains of Jammu but in the urban areas and Kandi belt situation is going from bad to worse.
While as influential people are getting water supply through tankers of Jal Shakti department, commoners are struggling to get drinking water.
One can see poor people with galloons and buckets on their bikes are moving from one tube-well to another to get drinking water for their family members.
Jammu city and towns regularly run out of water in the summer because they lack the infrastructure to deliver piped water to every home. Secondly, there is a huge gap between demand and supply of water.
There is a feeling among people that officers are least concerned about an acute shortage of drinking water because there is no accountability. Officers are rarely pick up phones because they have the patronage of those at the helm of the affairs.
Kandi areas are also badly affected by a lack of access to clean water.
As far as the situation of power is concerned, it is worsening with every passing day. Earlier metered areas were getting smooth power supply but now the situation has also worsened in these areas also.
