Irony ! Inexperienced Medical Superintendents manage Jammu hospitals | Lack requisite qualification to handle most important posts amid Covid times | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 18: The Medical Superintendents managing the premiere hospitals in Jammu barring SMGS hospital don’t possess the requisite qualification to handle these institutions. Sources told Early Times that the Medical Superintendents posted at Government Medical College Jammu, Gandhi Nagar Hospital, newly inaugurated DRDO Hospital, CD Hospital and Psychiatric Hospital are simple medical officers and don’t possess the requisite qualification and experience. They said that for doctor to be eligible for the post of Medical Superintendent besides having completed his Post Graduation i.e. MD, should have at least three years experience in administration to be appointed as deputy medical superintendents and five year experience as deputy medical superintendent to be appointed as Medical Superintendent. Sources said that the Medical Superintendents running the premiere hospitals in Jammu due to their “inexperience” have messed up the entire administration. They said, “Before appointing the inexperienced doctors as medical officers, the Health Department should have looked for Chief Medical Officers, who had the experience of running the administration, if CMOs were not available in J&K, the experienced hands from other places could have been appointed on deputation basis. J&K is a Union Territory and anyone from outside can be appointed as the Medical Superintendent.” Sources claimed that the hospitals being managed by the inexperienced people has ruined these institutions and administration is in a mess. “The Health Department needs to look for the experienced hands to manage the premiere health institutions so that patients don’t suffer.” An insider said, “The Covid patients were mismanaged in these hospitals as the people handling these institutions were incapable to handle the rush and manage the situation.” He said, “If the issue of putting the right people at the right place is not addressed on priority it can lead to chaos and confusion and patients will suffer.”
