Punjab resident arrested with 17 kg poppy straw in Ramban | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, July 21: Police have arrested one Punjab resident with 17 kg poppy straw in Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir. Senior Superintendent of Police, Ramban, P D Nitya on Wednesday said that narcotic smuggling bid was foiled at Nashri naka on the national highway with the arrest of one person along with 17 kgs poppy straw. She said that during naka checking, police intercepted one vehicle (DL2CAD 8056 for routine checking) , which was on its way from Srinagar towards Punjab. During the process of checking, the SSP said that poppy straw was recovered from the said person. On questioning, the accused passenger disclosed his identity as Vikram Singh of Tehsil Balachaur, District Shaheed Bhagat Singh nagar, Punjab. He was arrested on the spot and recovered poppy straw was also seized. It is pertinent to mention here that during the preliminary questioning, the said accused confessed that he was illegally transporting the poppy straw from Kashmir to Punjab, she said. A case under NDPS Act was registered and investigations started. |
