Approved in 2016, artificial lake project for Tattapani fails to take off | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 21: Though Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has set one year deadline to complete Tawi Riverfront Project to attract more tourists in Jammu city, similar project approved in 2017 for Tattapani town in District Rajouri mysteriously disappeared from the discourse of Tourism Department. “The project for Rajouri was approved by Mehbooba Mufti led regime in 2017, with an estimated cost of Rs 6 crore,” said Advocate Vinod Sudan, who is also a BJP leader. “After Government’s approval, many senior functionaries of Tourism Department visited Tatapani place and till June 2018 the project was at least in progress in paper-works, but after sudden fall of the state government in 2018, no one bothered about this project”, he said, after government’s approval for the project local MLA and Cabinet Minister, Er Abdul Gani Kohli visited Tattapani and also assured construction of road between TattaPani-Kalakote. “Unfortunately, caravan of progress of Tattapani town lasted in very small time. Our town comes under the control of Rajouri Development Authority (RDA), and the RDA in past years had carried out various development activities in Town, especially in and around the hot water spring of the Town. As, Tattapani known for this spring”, said a local shopkeeper, adding that every year’s thousands of tourists visit Tattapani in winter from different parts of country to take bath here. “Tattapani has potential of attracting more tourists respective of seasons, if the artificial lake is made. It will be an all-seasons tourist destination, and it will also boost the economic activities and generate employment avenues”, said concerned Panch, where the site for artificial lake was identified. Director Tourism Jammu, Vivekanand Rai could not be contacted for his comment on current status of the project. |
