Road from Bikram Chowk to University develops potholes after rains lash region | Turning Jammu into Smart City ? | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 21: Tall claims of the administration to turn Jammu into a Smart City have fallen flat as the road from Bikram Chowk to Jammu University has developed potholes and many portions of it have sunk after rain lashed the city. The local residents alleged that administration has only focussed on installing sign boards across the Jammu while the basic development has been compromised, ignored. “Road from Bikram Chowk to Jammu University is the classic example of the apathetic attitude of the concerned department, which ignored the importance of this stretch. After a few spells of rainfall recently, many portions of road have sunk, creating huge pits creating threats to the lives of motorists,” Vijay Singh Manhas, president of Rajiv Colony Bikram Chowk. He further said that the road was recently black topped by the PWD but it could not stay for long and after one spell of rain, the entire blacktopping came off and at many places the road patches have sunk creating huge ditches. Jammu Smart City Corporation has installed sign boards in this area without applying mind, which have blocked the free flow of rain water due to plinths constructed in the passage of drainage resulting in rain water gushing into nearby localities, alleged Gopal Sharma and Bablu. “These sign boards have become major problems for us. It is beyond understanding to install sign boards along the roadside whereas these should be installed in the main chowk,” said Hemraj, another resident. Not only this, even the main drainage system is totally blocked, which was supposed to be cleaned before the rainy season commences by the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) restricting flow of rain water, he alleged. “Due to the blocked drain system, the water diverts to the linked drain system and enters into the houses of the locals,” he added. |
