SRINAGAR, July 21: The Army on Wednesday organised motorcycle rally to commemorate Kargil Vijay Diwas in Union Territory (UT) of Ladakh.
A Defence Ministry spokesman Col Emron Musavi said on Wednesday that 15 Army personnel took part in the motor rally. It started from KM-120 to Leh via Shyok, Agham and Khardung La on July 21, 2021 and was seen off by Commander, Patiala Brigade.
This arduous journey through extremely rugged terrain included crossing Khardung La, the highest motorable pass in the world, The motorcycle rally has since arrived at Leh after braving the inclement weather and was cheered on by forward deployed soldiers and local citizens en route.
Kargil Vijay Diwas is being celebrated on July 26 every year as on this day last Pakistani intruder was pushed back in Kargil and troops announced successful culmination of operation Vijay. Pak intruders had occupied all heights in Drass and Kargil sectors in Ladakh region in 1999 and it took several months to Indian troops to reoccupy all heights.
