Training programme on Artificial Insemination concludes

JAMMU, July 21: A 10 days training programme on 'Hands on practice in Artificial Insemination and Reproductive disorders in dairy animals' w.e.f 12th to21st July, 2021 concluded at Faculty of Veterinary Sciences, SKUAST-Jammu, R.S. Pura.
Prof. M.S. Bhadwal, Dean, F.V.Sc & A.H, R.S Pura was the Chief Guest of the valedictory function. He highlighted the importance of reproductive problems in the dairy animals and their impact on the farmers' economy. He suggested the farmers to practice what they have learnt during the training at their respective farms. He promised more such trainings on the dairy farming for the benefits of farmers of Jammu region. He advised for creating a group of progressive dairy farmers for further technical support from SKUAST-Jammu and promotion of livestock farming in the region.
The training was conducted by Dr.Neelesh Sharma, Course Coordinator, Division of Veterinary Medicine under the project for weaker section (SC/ST) funded by the Department of Biotechnology, GoI, New Delhi. A total of 14 dairy farmers from various areas of Jammu actively participated in the training programme. Rural farmer livelihood mainly depends on the agriculture and livestock, particularly the dairy animals. Due to continuously shrinking of agricultural land, dependency of farmers towards the livestock and dairy farming is increasing.
Reproductive problems in the dairy animals are among the major issues responsible for economic losses to the dairy farmers. The repeat breeding and anestrous in dairy animals are the major problems faced by the farmers. The training focused on the hands on practice for Artificial Insemination (AI) in the dairy animals. During the training various lectures on different aspects of Artificial Insemination, reproductive disorders, feeding of dairy animals were delivered by the experts. The farmers were given training in A.I technique.
Practical demonstration was also conducted on nutrition and feeding of dairy animals and silage making for profitable dairy farming. Dr. Utsav Sharma and Dr. Sharad Kumar, Organizing Secretaries of the training gave various tips to the farmers for enhancing their skill. The valedictory function concluded with vote of thanks by Dr. Sharad Kumar.
