Belicharana sans proper drainage, dilapidated roads add to miseries of people
8/6/2021 11:52:50 PM

Early Times Report

Jammu, Aug 6: The development literally seems to be far away at Doda Basti of Belicharana where residents are facing immense problems, including absence of proper drainage, dilapidated roads.
Most drains, roads, lanes of this area are totally in dilapidated condition. “The drains of this area have never been cleaned and repaired due to which dirty water goes nowhere and overflows whenever it rains and enters into our houses. Absence of a proper drainage system has created havoc in the area. The drain has been dug nearly six feet deep and in case of the rain, this drain overflows and it being uncovered leads to children falling into it,” said, Darshna Devi, a local resident.
The drains and lanes were constructed a year ago but these have worn out.
The department had sanctioned drainage work for amounting Rs 7.82 lakh, which was later started but due to some reason the work couldn’t be completed due to which water finds no proper passage, alleged Man Singh Parihar.
He further said that there is an open space in this residential area, where a temple is situated, which gets filled with rain water making it difficult for people to offer their prayers in the temple.
Expressing serious concern of the main drainage of the Doda Basti, Captain Singh said that there is flood like situation whenever rains come. Entire nallah becomes full of water which enters in the houses adjoining it through their outlet points. The problem has been the biggest nuisance for the residents living nearby it.
“It has been 25 years, we are living in this area but the condition of roads and drainage has never improved. The roads have not been blacked and topped till date. The PHE water supply is also very poor, which comes after two-three days. We want that our drains, lanes should be cleaned and constructed,” Fateh Singh, Rajinder Singh Chouhan said.
There are huge potholes in the road which have never been filled up posing a serious threat of untoward incidents. The power supply has also worsened ever since the insulated power cables have been laid. We are disheartened with the political parties, who had always ignored our area.
There were problems with drains and lanes and for that we met the leaders but they didn’t help, they added.
