Bureaucrats act like ‘monarchs’ in J&K | BJP leaders, other politicians accuse bureaucracy of messing up affairs | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 6: Not many people, including politicians, are happy with style of functioning of bureaucracy in Jammu and Kashmir. Senior BJP leaders in J&K Yudhvir Sethi, Kavinder Gupta and many others have castigated the bureaucracy for ignoring the aspirations of the people and dictating terms to the masses. When COVID-19 second wave was at its peak in Jammu and Kashmir, BJP vice-president and incharge COVID management, Yudhvir Sethi had slammed administration for not doing enough to contain the alarming surge in Corona Virus cases despite knowing that second wave would be more dangerous. While addressing a press conference in Jammu, he had criticized administration for making the CD Hospital a Triage Centre as a big mistake. Sethi had also accused the bureaucracy of messing up the mining business in Jammu and had alleged that the officials were patronizing the mining mafia. Former J&K deputy chief minister, Kavinder Gupta, had blamed the bureaucracy of messing up affairs in Jammu and Kashmir. When the row over Mahajans, Khatris and Sikhs deprived of buying or selling agricultural land in the Union Territory, Kavinder Gupta had approached the top officials to amend the rule but no one listened to him. He had stated that “bureaucracy is running Jammu and Kashmir and BJP has got nothing to do with it.” BJP chief spokesman, Sunil Sethi, had lashed out at the bureaucracy of depriving wine traders in Jammu of their livelihood by announcing “new wine policy.” Earlier this year District Development Council (DDC) members had staged a protest against the bureaucracy for not allowing them to function properly. The CPI (M) leader Mohammad Yousuf Taragami had said, “At the highest level, the government had been claiming that they will empower grassroots democracy. Now they should do it. It is not a question of an honorarium but the question of lending real powers to the DDC.” He had said that bureaucracy needs to get sensitised to the fact that the DDC comprises elected representatives. Peoples Conference chairman Sajad Gani Lone had also held bureaucracy responsible for the “disappointment and humiliation” of the DDC members. |
