Positivity rate drops | | | Covid-19 cases are on decline in Jammu and Kashmir. Positivity rate has dropped to 0.2 % and all districts are now in Green Zone as per the stringent indicators for consecutive weeks. The weekend curfew imposed for couple of months has also gone. But the COVID-19 has not gone it's still there and we need to observe Covid Appropriate Behaviour to ensure that the Covid situation remains under control. The Covid Appropriate Behaviour, 100% vaccination coverage of the targeted population, maximum testing, wearing of face masks, strict implementation of micro containment zones, and effective clinical management are must to eliminate the threat of the 3rd wave. The administration needs to focus on ensuring isolation of the travelers at the airport. There are reports that passengers are allowed to move as soon as their rapid test is conducted at the Jammu and Srinagar airports and in case some turns to be positive, he is informed through SMS. This actually defeats the purpose of carrying the test and as somebody who tests positive mingles with many persons before he comes to know about it. This aspect needs to be looked into and isolation of such patients ensured and importantly within the time. One should never lose sight of the ferocious second wave, which devastated lives and livelihood in April and May which was characterised by the very visible scenario of hospitals being overrun, and the sick gasping for a very basic necessity of medical oxygen and a spike in excess deaths. In fact, May proved deadly in terms of fatalities with 1625 Covid-19 deaths, accounting for around 40% of the total toll since the start of the pandemic in March last year, and 114359 cases were added to the overall tally. The situation has started to get better since and continues to be so as the time progresses. However, all aspects, including minute ones, need to be worked out in a better manner. It is imperative to note that public health and social measures remain the key to stop virus transmission. The government should continue to make efforts to prevent virus spread and remain cogent to all factors. Some experts still warn of a third wave and heightened spread could happen if important aspects are overlooked by both the government and the civilians. |
