Gadwal-Rampur road in shambles, villagers fume | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
SAMBA, Aug 28: The dilapidated condition of road leading to village Gadwal Rampur in tehsil Vijaypur here is giving tough time to the commuters. There is a strong resentment among the people against the PWD department for its indifferent attitude towards maintenance of the road. According to locals the poor condition of the road is mainly due to lack of drainage along the road. People said that the condition of the road is in pathetic state for the last more than two years, adding that the department has built the road but did not bother to construct drains along it to drain the water due to which water overflows onto the road and remains stagnant in the middle of the road. The local people of the village including Nanak Chand, Parveen, Sharma, Vijay Kumar, Bablu Kumar and others say that a large number of people commuting on this road find it difficult to negotiate the pot holes, adding that people are forced to experience a bumpy ride on this dilapidated road. "Many a time, owing to the bad condition of the road, passenger vehicles have broken down," they said. Locals say that it is difficult to drive vehicles, particularly two-wheelers on the road. They said that the department was informed about this problem many times but it did not take any interest in improving the condition of the road, adding that the department does not listen to the common people. Villagers further stated that they even informed the officials during the Back to Village programmes regarding this problem but the department so far has turned a deaf ear to all their pleas. The people demanded from the DC Samba and PWD officials to construct drainage along the road so as to elongate its life. |
