| Nikki Tawi faces extinction threat, courtesy official apathy | | |

Jammu, Oct 26: Nikki Tawi in Jammu city is facing extinction as the authorities are not paying any attention towards this vital water body.
The unabated encroachment and illegal mining have turned Nikki Tawi into a nallah.
“It seems that land encroachers are waiting for this water body to dry up fast so that they can turn it into a barren land to construct big buildings and structures,” said a resident.
He said when the last time flash floods hit Jammu region many houses built on the banks of Niki Tawi were washed off. “Despite that people have not learnt any lessons and they are busy constructing houses on the banks of Nikki Tawi,” the resident added.
The Nikki Tawi is a part of Jammu’s heritage but it’s facing extinction.
“The claims of authorities to preserve Jammu and its surroundings are confined to papers only,” he said. |
