No amnesty for anti-nationals
10/28/2021 11:11:38 PM

The government has acted tough against the medical students who celebrated Pakistan’s victory against India in T-20 world cup match by registering an open FIR and booking them under Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA). In Srinagar police registered two FIRs, one at Soura Police Station and another at Karan Nagar Police Station.
The FIRs are open and the accused who celebrated Pakistan’s victory in a government facility are being identified. Nationalist voices across the country are demanding that a stern action should be taken against the students who celebrated the win of an enemy country. In fact consensus is emerging that taking action is the need of the hour as it would serve as a deterrent for others, who may try to do the same.
Once the medical students who celebrated the Pakistan victory are identified and arrested, they won’t be able to pursue their degrees, nor will they be eligible for any jobs as they won’t get the clearance once they are booked.
The medical students by behaving in an irresponsible way have set a wrong precedent. It needs to be corrected. Had the Kashmir centric rulers acted tough against the separatists and the ones preaching secession during their regimes in the erstwhile State, conditions in J&K could have been much better.
It’s unfortunate but true that the former rulers gave enough space to Pakistan stooges in the Valley and went out of way to appease them. They never made an attempt to send a message that anti-national activities won’t be tolerated. They allowed separatists to misuse the freedom of speech and build an anti-national narrative in Kashmir.
However, after August 5, 2019—when the Centre announced its decision to abrogate J&K’s special status and divided it into two union territories—things have changed. The Centre has taken a serious note of the seditious acts and clear cut instructions have been passed to the law enforcing agencies to act tough against the people who try to indulge in any such act that’s not in line with the nationalist policy.
The medical students are in a soup as there are very less chances of them getting any general amnesty this time. It should serve as a lesson for all the Kashmiri students within the Valley and the ones studying outside J&K. They need to focus on their studies and remember that if they indulge in anti-national acts they will end up ruining their careers and lives.
