Early Times Report

Srinagar, Oct 28: A Video, showing attendants moving out patient from District Hospital Shopian on a stretcher to get his x-ray test done in a nearby private laboratory, has gone viral on social media sites.
Patients visiting the Government run district Hospital for getting their X-ray tests done alleged that the digital X-ray tests was lying dysfunctional from the last many weeks and the non-availability of x-ray machines was forcing them to get these tests done from the private laboratories at exorbitant rates.
The video, which has appeared on social media sites including Facebook and Twitter, shows a family moving a patient from the district hospital on a stretcher towards a private clinic.
“The hospital staff told us that this test can’t be done here and advised us to get it done from outside (private clinic),” family members of the patient can be heard saying in the video.
Several patients told Early Times that they faced problems as digital X-ray tests have not been conducted in the hospital for more than 20 days now. “As the digital X-ray machine is developed some snag and the company which is supposed to repair it now the patients are being told to get digital x-ray tests done from private laboratories and they are being forced to spend 400 to 500 Rupees for each test,” they said.
They said that X-ray tests through the manual X-ray machine are, however, being conducted in the hospital.
They said that the Manual X-ray tests are not clear and, therefore, diagnosis of diseases becomes a difficult task for doctors. “If a disease is not diagnosed properly, how can a doctor treat it,” they said.
MS at District Hospital Shopian, Dr Ismail admitted that the digital x-ray machine was lying dysfunctional for the last twenty (20) days.
“It is a fact that currently digital x-ray tests aren’t being done at the hospital as the machine has developed some mechanical snag. We contacted the company and expect that they will repair the machine in the next few days,” Dr Ismail said.
He said that he and his staff were in regular contact with the company and were pressing them to repair the x-ray machine on priority basis. “I am calling them thrice in a day,” he said, adding he had roped in two private labs functioning adjacent to the hospital and directed them to conduct these tests on hospital rates till the x-ray machine of the hospital gets functional.
“Some people might not be knowing we had roped in two private labs and directed them to conduct these tests on government hospital rates,” he claimed.
Chief Medical Officer Shopain, Dr Arshid Tak said that the x-ray machine will get functional in two days.
“The company has sent us the part through courier and it will be made functional in the next two days,” he said.
