Poonch encounter enters 20th day: Confusion over number of terrorists prevails | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 28: The deadly Poonch encounter has entered its 20th day today as first contact with the terrorists was established on October 8. Twenty days have been passed but authorities still failed to come out with a clear picture of the number of terrorists hiding in the forest and their locations. Nine Army soldiers, two of them JCOs, have been martyred so far in Chamrer forests of Surankote and Bhatta Durrian jungles of Mendhar in the gun battles with the terrorists. Shockingly, terrorists have ambushed soldiers twice in which nine soldiers attained martyrdom but none of the terrorists has been killed or nabbed by the forces so far. Highly placed sources said that despite suffering huge casualties security forces have yet to establish contact with the terrorists hiding in the forest. “It appears that security forces are still groping in the dark because, after the passing of twenty long days, no concrete lead has been recovered so far”, sources said and added that despite pressing drones into service, security forces have yet not identified the hideouts of terrorists”. Sources said that there is every possibility that terrorists have developed hideouts in forest areas. “Either terrorists have constructed concrete hideouts in the forest areas or they (terrorists) are hiding in natural caves”, sources said. Meanwhile, a search operation by security personnel continued in the Bhata-Durian area which is adjacent to the Dehra Ki Gali (DKG) forest ridge in Rajouri-Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir. Army troops along with the Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police had launched a search operation in this dense forest. |
