Khalra Cycling expedition launched by Indian Army | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 7: The Khalra Cycling Expedition was launched to commemorate Swarnim Vijay Varsh, the 50th anniversary of the glorious victory of Indian Army in the 1971 war. The expedition was launched by the Indian Army from Rakhmuthi Military Station, Akhnoor. The expedition was flagged off by Commander of Manawar Yodha Brigade and would be covering a distance of 665 kilometers over 10 days across Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab & Himachal Pradesh. This expedition will be visiting the home of the hero of Khalra, Lance Havaldar Raghbir Singh, who made the supreme sacrifice by ensuring that the Khalra Bridge was not captured and hence denied the crossing of Upper Bari Doab Canal (UBDC) at all costs. Further, it will pay homage to the sacred battlefield of Khalra where Jammu & Kashmir Rifles regiment fought and blunted multiple enemy offensives. Expedition will finally be flagged-in to an end in Udhampur by Lt Gen YK Joshi, GOC in C Northern Command.
