Govt rubbing salts on wounds of hail storm affected Jammu farmers: Farooq | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 7: Former Chief Minister and National Conference (NC) president Dr. Farooq Abdullah on Tuesday lambasted the J&K government for sanctioning a meager amount of Rs 600 per kanal for farmers whose crops were completely damaged in recent hail storms and rains in the plains of Jammu. “This compensation is nothing but a cruel joke with farmers who lost everything due to untimely rains and hail storms”, Dr. Abdullah said while addressing a function at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhawan. The former Chief Minister said that the J&K government had declared recent rainfalls and hail storms as “State Calamity” but despite that, a meager amount of Rs 600 per kanal has been sanctioned for affected farmers. He said that this action of the J&K is liking rubbing salts on wounds of affected farmers. The NC in its resolution demanded a legal guarantee of Maximum Support Price (MSP). “As the farming community has been fighting for passage of legislation for MSP, the National Conference supports their just and genuine demand”, the resolution reads and also demanded compensation to the farmers for the damage to their crops due to hailstorms and torrential rains. “The farmers are being harassed and tortured by snatching away their lands under cultivation forcing them to adopt the path of agitation. We stand with these farmers and appeal to the government to defer this campaign till a popular government is established in Jammu and Kashmir,” the NC said. |
