Crime Branch books woman Sarpanch for producing fake SC certificate

Rajouri, Dec 7: Crime Branch Jammu has registered a criminal case against a Sarpanch and three others for obtaining a Scheduled Caste Category Certificate allegedly by fraudulent means. Those who have been booked include Sarpanch Santosh Kumari, her husband Bidhi Chand R/o Village Bhajnova Tehsil Nowshera District Rajouri, the then Tehsildar Nowshera and the then Patwari Nowshera for their involvement in the crime.
The accused obtained a Scheduled Caste Category certificate by fraudulent means and used it during the Panchayat election in Halqa Bhajnow in Nowshera Rajouri.
A written complaint was lodged by Joginder Singh R/o Bhajnowa with Crime Branch Jammu, alleging inter-alia that his wife Sheetal Kour resident of village Bhajnowa had contested election as Sarpanch candidate in a reserve category (SC) constituency against a lady namely Santosh Kumari who was having a false and forged SC category certificate on the basis of which she won the election, whereas she belonged to Vashisht Rajput community as per the revenue record of her husband and her parents.
“On receipt of this complaint, a preliminary verification was conducted and during the course of probe, revenue records were obtained from the concerned authorities and it was prima-facie established that the SC Certificate was managed by the accused beneficiary in connivance with other co-accused persons viz Govt. officers/official.
The omissions and commissions on the part of the accused is liable for the offences punishable u/s 420, 465, 467, 468, 471, 120-B RPC r/w 5(2) PC Act. Svt. 2006. Accordingly, a formal case has been registered in P/S Crime Branch, Jammu against the above-mentioned accused persons and others for in-depth investigation, an official of crime branch said.
