GDC Ramnagar organizes campaign on nature conservation | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
RAMNAGAR, Dec 7: To conserve the nature and natural sources of water as a part of Clean India Movement, NSS unit Govt Degree College (GDC) Ramnagar organized a two-day long campaign. The objective of this campaign was to clean the natural water resources (bowlis) in the adopted village Thaplal. Bowli is a natural ground water reservoir for locals filled by natural springs in the region, also known as “stepwells”. There are various religious and cultural sentiment attached with the bowli. Bowlis is also used for drinking and domestic purpose. However, due to accumulation of waste surrounding the bowli, its usage has started to decline in recent years. An initiative has been taken by NSS volunteers towards cleaning the waste surrounding the step wells so that it can be properly utilized for future use. The entire activities were carried by wearing mask, gloves and use of sanitizers. The waste materials or garbage were thrown in the dustbin and the entire area was cleaned by the freshwater. All the water clogging was also effectively removed. The boundaries of the bowli were scrubbed with the piece of cloth and washed properly. On second day, NSS volunteers brought their self made articles of waste materials with the theme to reduce and recycle waste. Many students posted photos of various decorative items made from waste twigs, ropes, plastic bottles, polythene bags, wool etc. The theme of the event organized by the college was to reduce and recycle the waste and contribute to the preservation of eco-system. The campaign was organized under the patronship and direction of Dr Udhey Bhanu, Principal, GDC Ramnagar and guidance of Prof Ritika Mahajan, NSS PO of the college.
