The play ‘The Methods’ bares the philosophy and manoeuvres of an expert bachelor seducer, Peter, who demonstrates his foolproof methods to influence the young wife of his close friend, Nikolaich, comparatively a simpleton. Peter showers adulations on latter’s wife, Irena, in an attempt to secure her, who later gives in but retaining her sobriety and unbending dignity. It is a series of scenes that, give us a strong sense of Chekhov’s take on the human condition. The story exposes the ridiculous, tender, outlandish, ludicrous, innocent, and weird frailties of human beings. |
