GGM Science College holds lecture on Human Rights

JAMMU, Dec 12: NSS Unit 1of GGM Science College Jammu held extension lecture on Human Rights Day. In this connection a lecture was organized here today to sensitize the students to raise awareness about the relevance of human rights and to inspire positive approach towards its importance. The lecture was organized under aegis of Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav with the theme “Equality, Reducing inequalities, advancing human rights under guidance of principal Dr. Ravender Tickoo and supervision of Dr. Narinder Kumar NSS PO.
Dr. Tickoo underlined that the international document (UN )commits nations to recognise all humans as being “born free and equal in dignity and rights” regardless of, place of residence, gender, ethnic origin, colour, religion, language, “nationality.”
Dr. A Hussain well known educationist was the main resource person on the occasion. In his lecture, Dr. Hussain threw a detailed light on disseminating awareness among students about the importance of Human Rights. He added that the declaration consists of 30 articles elaborating an individual’s “basic rights and fundamental freedoms” and affirming their universal character as inalienable, inherent, and applicable to all human. He further added that General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, a milestone document enshrines the rights and freedoms of all human beings.
Earlier, NSS PO Dr. Narinder Kumar in his welcome address said that Human Rights Day is observed every year on 10 December. He emphasized that National Human Rights Commission of India defines human rights under the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993, as “Rights Relating to Life, liberty, equality and dignity of the individual guaranteed by the constitution and enforceable by courts in India”.
The event ended with a special vote of thanks by the NSS PO. Karan, Shubham, Poonam, Rohit, Arun, Sonia, Sandeep etc. spoke on the event and made it successful.
