Early Times Report

JAMMU, Dec 16: A delegation of Traders Federation Ware House Nehru Market today met Vice Chairman Jammu Development Authority Pankat Magotra and submitted a memorandum raising the burning issues of the biggest wholesale grain mandi. Deepak Gupta, President of Federation apprised Magotra about the problems faced by businessmen.
Demanding ownership rights and go-down space for warehouse, Gupta said that the trading community of is facing a lot of congestion due to lack of space with an increase in the business establishments since 1956. The 4th generation is working in ware house and facing a lot of problems because they don’t have any space for the night stay of outside traders who come to ware house for business activities.
Thousands of workers are forced to spend nights in the open because they can’t construct shelters for them. Gupta said that JDA is running a parking lot in ware house with a capacity of 100 vehicles which is insufficient and its capacity should be enhanced to at least 200 cars. Besides car parking, this wholesale mandi also needs separate parking for trucks and other load carriers.
Gupta said that the main road and other link roads of ware house are in dilapidated condition. Due to heavy rush the road suffered wear and tear and developed many potholes. The blacktopping eroded which turned the road into a dusty path. Asking for proper lighting, he said that this oldest wholesale market is gripped with darkness as most of the lights in the area are in damaged condition. He requested to install High Mast Lights at least ten in number and install new street lights by removing the damaged lights lying in unworkable conditions in the area.
