GDC Basohli celebrates Vijay Diwas

BASOHLI, Dec 16: Under the aegis of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, NCC unit of the GDC, Basohli celebrated the Vijay Diwas to commemorate the victory of the Indian armed forces over Pakistan in the 1971 war and remembered their valor and sacrifice. The event was organized under and patronage of Dr. Nidhi Kotwal, Principal of the college and supervised by Dr. Papinder Kumar, Organizing secretary, whereas, Tilak Raj Thappa, ADC Basohli was the chief guest of the function. The college principal welcomed the chief guest by presenting a bouquet and took him to the stage, wherein, the guests along with faculty members were accompanied by the NCC cadets. The program commenced with the lighting of the traditional lamp followed by the rendition of the National Anthem. Afterward, cultural items including patriotic and folk were presented by the college students, which were highly applauded by the audience. Later, participants belonging to various sports categories, which brought laurels in terms of Gold, Silver and Bronze medals for the college, were felicitated. While addressing the occasion, the chief guest remembered the supreme sacrifice of the soldiers and spoke about the historical facts of the day. He encouraged the students to join the armed forces and contribute to the nation. He also appreciated the efforts of the college faculty for providing all the necessary infrastructure and help to the students participating in the sports, NSS and NCC. He also highlighted a few of the policies of the government, especially for Basohli that will create job avenues in the sports and tourism sector. The program culminated with the formal vote of thanks presented by Prof. Brahm Dutt and the anchoring of the function was conducted by Sumit Badial, NSS volunteer of the college.
