GDC Chenani organizes symposium on ‘New Education Policy & Mahatma Gandhi’

CHENANI, Dec 16: Govt Degree College (GDC) Chenani under the auspices of its NSS unit ‘Prayatna’, Languages Club and Azadi Ka Amrit Mohatsav cell organized a National Symposium on “New Education Policy and Mahatama Gandhi” in collaboration with ‘Jammu and Kashmir Rashtra Bhasha Prachar Samiti’ today.
The mega event was organized in three segments. The first segment was felicitation Ceremony of revered Chief Guest, Padma Shri Prof. Shiv Datt Nirmohi. He was honoured for his valuable services and contribution towards Dogra culture and language. Dr. Bharat Bhushan Sharma, General Secretary, Rashtra Bhasha Prachar Samiti, J&K was the guest of honour of the event. The other dignitaries included Dr. Neeraj Kumar, Dr. Bipin Chander Verma and Dr. Vijay Kumar. Dr Pragya Khanna, Principal of the College stated that the presence of such luminaries shall lift the morale of students and inspire them to carry forward the cultural and literary legacy, thus taking the College to new heights. Padma Shri Prof Nirmohi in his key note address stated that self-belief and hard work is the key to success. He said the students must ponder deeply and discover their inner self to make their lives more purposeful, missionary and render activism in social and cultural fields. He appealed to local students to preserve rich cultural heritage of the region.
Prof. Bharat Bhushan Sharma emphasized the need to focus on mother tongue as medium of instruction as it promotes creativity. He further stated that there is an urgent need of resurgence of Gandhian values in education to make India self-reliant, prosperous and developed. The last segment of the session was intra-college competition among the students. Dr. Neeraj Kumar, Dr. Vijay Kumar and Dr. Bipin Chander Verma were the adjudicators. Stakshi Thakur, student BA third semester bagged first position in the competition, followed by Sandhiya Kotwal who bagged second position, the third position was won by Rakshita Mahajan student of BA third semester while a consolation prize was given to Ariya for her presentation. Yash Paul and Nishu Devi were given special applause for their self written poetry and classical song performance respectively.
